Ron proposed to Carol during the summertime following his junior year of college. The two were enjoying a picnic in the park when Ron asked Carol to marry him. Carol admits it wasn’t a total surprise that he proposed, but she was astonished that she got a ring. “I assumed I would have to wait until after he graduated before we could afford a ring,” she says.
The couple married in the winter and exchanged vows at Carol’s family church, Dormont Presbyterian Church, in Pittsburgh. The theme was decidedly winter white — snow covered the ground outside; Carol held a cascade of white flowers, and Ron donned a white carnation boutonniere.
Following the traditional 7:30 p.m. wedding ceremony at the church, a reception was held in a large ballroom with a live band at The Dormont New Century Club.
Children
They have five children, who were baptized Episcopalian: Ronald, Lori, Randal, Robert, and Joy. Paul’s son Randal is the junior United States senator from the state of Kentucky. Paul was raised as a Lutheran and later became a Baptist. Since 1995, Carol Paul has published the Ron Paul Family Cookbook, a collection of recipes she and her friends contributed, and which was sold in part to support Ron Paul’s political campaigns. His life and career is the subject of the 2012 film Ron Paul Uprising.
Paul and his wife currently reside in Lake Jackson, Texas.
