As previously reported by CrimeOnlineWalker had just attended Valentine’s dance in Fort Worth shortly before disappearing. She was abducted while sitting in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car while in the parking lot of a bowling alley.
According to Walker’s boyfriend, Rodney McCoy, an unknown man approached the car and pointed a gun at him. Within minutes, something hit McCoy on the head and knocked him unconscious. When McCoy woke up, he felt the blood rush out of his head and into his eyes. He also had a large cut under the eye. Walker was gone.
Police found Walker’s body three days later near Lake Benbrook. After investigations, detectives determined that Walker had been tortured while staying alive for days before the suspect killed her. They also injected her with morphine, beat her, and raped her.
The DNA from Walker’s clothing was sent to a private Texas lab that discovers DNA and genetic evidence through “DNA, uprooted hair and decades-old bones.”

A suspect’s DNA profile was then established, matching that of three brothers with the last name McCurley. During the initial investigation in 1974, one of the brothers, Glen Samuel McCurley, was a person of interest after police discovered he had a Ruger 22. The magazine found at the crime scene matched the pistol.
At the time, there was insufficient evidence for an arrest, and McCurley claimed the weapon had been stolen. while fishing in a river, Dallas News reports.
More than 40 years later, detectives decided to collect trash from McCurley’s trash can, in an attempt to obtain his DNA. After finding a match, they went to the suspect’s home to interview him. McCurley invited detectives in and recited the same thing he told authorities in 1974.
McCurley claimed that he had been working the day Walker was kidnapped as a long-distance truck driver. He said again that his gun had been stolen before Carla’s kidnapping and that he had no idea what had happened to her.
McCurley then accepted a DNA swab, which eventually matched the DNA found on Walker’s bra. Authorities said they believe the attack was random and McCurley did not know the victim. After the crime, McCurley appeared to have led a normal life without any arrests. He married and had two sons.
