She went to Fort Hunt High School, from which she matriculated in 1982, upon which she enrolled at Virginia Tech, from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism four years later. She started her career at WXVT headquartered in Greenville, Mississippi, and then from 1992 to 1998 served as anchor and reporter for WWL-TV in New Orleans. It was in 1998 that she joined NBC News, and since then has held a number of important positions at the station, including being the national correspondent.
