Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has requested he wants to keep winger Antony at the club regardless, meanwhile pointing to a dig at Manchester United. The Brazilian general has missed briefings and was kept out of Sunday’s matchday squad that beat Sparta Rotterdam 1-0 as he wishes to drop in for a social event with United manager Erik ten Hag.
United have seen a £68m offer for Antony, with Ajax expecting close to £78m, and sources close to the Eredivisie side have confirmed that one more offer from United will quickly appear.

Amid the weakness, Schreuder reiterated his desire to keep Antony in the middle of the year and addressed why the winger would have to step down to join a club that will not play in the Champions League this season.
“Basically, I’m keeping in mind that Antony should stay, so hopefully he doesn’t get sold,” Schreuder told ESPN. “The money being alluded to is crazy, but we’ve recently sold five or six focus players. I really don’t accept that it’s right to expect us to sell another player.
“My tendency in this regard is perfect, but I also manage the young man. It’s inconvenient. However, we play in the Champions League and I don’t think Manchester United will do that. We’ll see what happens.”
Seeing whether Ajax could bear to reject such a grandiose suggestion, the coach asked: “I can’t conclude that, the club needs to judge that. However, I accept that we are strong areas by far.”
Antony remains United’s main chasing concentration for the remainder of the window and the club’s specialists are also considering adding more than one new striker, with PSV’s Cody Gakpo and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic on the radar.
