Anthony Johnson, the actor, and comedian who appeared in the movies Friday and Party in the House, has died at the age of 55. Born in Compton, California, his father was a specialist and founder of the Black Stuntmen’s Association. Johnson began acting when he was in his early twenties. In 1990 he landed a starring role as E.Z.E. at House Party, after which he started doing stand-up in bars in Los Angeles.
He later appeared in Lethal Weapon 3 as a drug dealer and in the Menace II Society. His biggest role was in the 1995 comedy Friday, as Ezal, a crack addict and thief. He has also appeared in Panther, The Players Club, B * A * P * S, I Got The Hook-Up, Def Jam’s How to Be a Player and Repos, and in rap videos: on Dr. Dre’s “Dre Day” (1992 ), played Sleazy-E, a parody of Eazy-E, and reappeared as Sleazy-E in the video for Eazy-E’s “Real Muthaphuckkin G’s” (1993), this time being assaulted.

His death was confirmed to Deadline by his representative Lynea Bell. “It is with great sadness that I can confirm AJ’s passing at the age of 55,” Bell said in a statement. The cause of death or other details have not been released.
“The world of comedy has really been rocked, again,” Bell said in a statement. “Our BH Talent family is heartbroken over the loss of legendary screen and stage legend, Mr. Anthony ‘AJ’ Johnson. He has left us with incredible memories of his laughter, his dynamic acting skills, but most of all his enormous personality and his heart of gold. We will be in constant prayer for his entire family, including his wife Lexis, their 3 children, his brother Edward “Peanut” Smith, his sister Sheila, and lifelong friend and manager Mike D. Please give them the time they need to process and mourn a great loss. ”
Johnson, who often called himself AJ Johnson, appeared in several small television roles before his breakthrough as the character EZE in the 1990 sitcom Kid ‘n Play. Party in the House. In his most notable film role, Johnson played crack-addicted thief Ezal in the 1995 Chris Tucker-Ice Cube comedy Friday.
