Angela Trejo – Mother, Adult Daughter Found Stabbed to Death in Basement of Philadelphia Home

A 75-year-old woman and her 58-year-old daughter were found stabbed to death Tuesday in the basement of their home in Philadelphia’s Crescentville neighborhood. Police identified the victims as Angela Trejo and her daughter, Alma Barberena, and said both women suffered multiple stab wounds, WPVI reported. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said they were called to the home at about 1:30 p.m. by a 911 call, but they did not say who called 911. Two men were taken in for questioning; one of them was said to be Barberena’s husband, who had cuts and blood on his hands.  Investigators say it is a domestic-related incident.

Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore told WCAU that there were no signs of a break-in at the home, but he declined to discuss if investigators thought the suspects knew the victims.

Police executed search warrants at another home several miles away in Tacony in the evening. Sources to WPVI blood was found on the garage door at that home. The sources said blood was also found on at least one of two cars towed from the Crescentville scene.

Neighbor Jack Burkhardt said Trejo and her husband lived at the home there and that “they were excellent neighbors” who were very active in their church. “Someone always came, one of the daughters usually, sometimes twice a day, but someone always came to check up on them,” said Burkhardt.]

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.
