Alison Mau stated in December 2017 that she took off from her daily RadioLIVE Drive public broadcast in February 2018. Mau said she had been “unimaginably lucky” to spend four years at the station learning the radio business. “Having spent my initial profession in print reporting, then by then 20+ years on television, radio was another quagmire for me. I leave with a reserve of skills between scenarios that I could have longed for in those days,” Mau said. She would not be drawn to her 2018 arrangements, saying “revealing those subtleties is too soon.”
Mau is currently a commentary reporter for The Sunday Star-Times weekend newspaper, and is a supporter of the news portal Stuff.co.nz, which is distributed by Fairfax Computerized, a division of Fairfax New Zealand Ltd. She says it’s an opportunity for Kiwis, mainly women, but also men, to hold their abusers to account. Referencing the social development of superstar #metoo, the #metoonz project is for people who needed to have a voice but had no idea where to go. She felt that the size of New Zealand had held back the development of #metoo, with ladies and men hesitating to stand up due to paranoid fear of losing their jobs or careers in our more modest companies.

Alison Mau told Radio New Zealand Mediawatch that she will respond to each person who contacts before any single accounts are released to the writers.
