Tye received a life sentence, of which he must serve a minimum term of 12 1/2 years. Ipswich Crown Court heard this week that Tye had blamed the girl for the breakup with his girlfriend.

As a result, Tye, from Friston, Suffolk, left the girl to die in a park near Benhall on October 2 last year. In an emotional victim statement, the girl said she was determined to be independent despite her injuries, adding: “I won’t let him hit me.”
As she waited for help to arrive after the attack, she said that she was determined not to die, as that would have meant that Tye had won. The victim said that she pretended to be dead so that Tye would not continue the attack. As she walked away from her, she called her name to see if she was still alive.
She was left screaming for help, unconscious and unconscious, for four hours before a dog walker discovered her at 6am. Detective Chief Inspector Chris Hinitt of Suffolk Police said: “This was a truly shocking incident which left the victim with lifelong injuries.” Her bravery and that of her family have been an inspiration to those involved in this case. The victim’s family wrote in a statement: “We would like to thank the police for the professionalism and humanity they have shown throughout this process. To the NHS ambulance crew and the wonderful staff at Ipswich Hospital, along with the Stoke Mandeville team, a heartfelt thank you.
“The level of care, compassion, and affection that you have wrapped around our daughter has been overwhelmingly lovely. ‘Our local community, families, and friends have thrown on that blanket of support and helped us through these difficult months.
“Always a fighter, our daughter has emerged with spirit and is determined to live life to the fullest.”
