“His stomach is distended, but he is extremely thin and his skin is loose,” the social worker reported, the news station said. At one hospital, a doctor told a social worker: “At the very least, this case is medical malpractice, possibly shocking and egregious.”

The child was placed in the care of the health services. Police learned that the boy had only gained six pounds in seven years, the station reported. The parents allegedly claimed the boy was on a “sugar-free” diet, reportedly only feeding him biscuits. At the hospital, Cox took the child’s food and said she had “too much sugar,” the station reported, citing an affidavit.
