Career

Broner turned professional on May 31, 2008, and scored three consecutive first-round knockouts against Allante Davis, David Warren Huffman and Ramon Flores. In Broner’s fourth fight he faced Terrance Jett at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on the undercard of the Ricky Hatton vs Paulie Malignaggi fight. Broner defeated Jett with a stoppage in the sixth round. In Broner’s fifth professional fight and final of 2008, he faced Eric Ricker with a no-contest decision.

In January 2009, he was forced to go the distance with Jose Alfredo Lugo, at the Staples Center on the undercard of Shane Mosley vs Antonio Margarito. Broner returned to the ring in March scoring a unanimous decision over Eric Ricker. Three weeks later Broner stopped Angel Rodriguez in the fourth round.

In his eighth fight Broner stepped up to eight rounds in a hard-fought fight with Fernando Quintero, pulling out a controversial majority decision victory in a fight that Quintero took on 4 days’ notice. In June at the Staples Center Broner met Australian William Kickett, scoring a sixth-round knockout. On the Juan Díaz vs Paul Malignaggi undercard in Houston Broner made short work of Edgar Portillo, victory coming via stoppage in the first round. Broner defeated Henry White Jr via KO in September and finished his busy year against Tommy Atencio.

Broner stopped Atencio in the first round, for the sixth time in thirteen fights. Broner then had a fourth round stoppage victory over Roberto Acevedo. Broner fought 4 more times in 2010 against Rafael Lora, Carlos Claudio, Guillermo Sanchez, and Ilido Julio, stopping all of them.

Charges and Arrested

Local police pulled over the 30-year-old pugilist around 8:45 p.m. for an unspecified reason and determined Broner was under the influence, TMZ Sports reported.

It was the latest run-in with the law for the fighter from Cincinnati.

Back in December, the four-time world champion was ordered to pay $830,000 to a woman who had accused him of sexually assaulting her at a nightclub in Cleveland.

Broner, known as “The Problem,” has also had conflicts with the lords of the ring.

In 2014, the World Boxing Council suspended him for making “racially insensitive statements” after defeating Mexican boxer Carlos Molina.

Bond for Broner was set at $1,000 on Friday night and he was expected to be released early Saturday, TMZ reported.

We’re told the 30-year-old former champ was stopped by police around 8:45 PM local time — and officers quickly believed Broner was under the influence, so they arrested him for DUI.

Broner was taken to a nearby station where he was awake long enough to take a drowsy mug shot. Bond was set at $1,000 but he’s on an 8-hour hold so he’ll be behind bars until at least 4 AM on Saturday.

It’s just the latest in a string of legal issues for the former prodigy — he’s been accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, assaulting people in public and he’s been sued multiple times for not paying jewelry debts.

Broner was once considered one of the best prospects in boxing. He was a champ in 4 weight classes — and Floyd Mayweather took him under his wing. At one point, he gave himself the nickname “About Billions.”

Broner is 33-4 as a pro — but he hasn’t won a fight since 2017. Since then, he lost to Manny Pacquiao and Mikey Garcia … and fought to a draw with Jessie Vargas.
