Childhood

Adjoa Andoh grew up in Wickwar, Gloucester, with her mother, an English teacher, and her father, a Ghanaian journalist and musician.
She first attended Katharine Lady Berkeley’s school, then began studying law at Bristol Polytechnic. But she dropped out after two years to pursue an acting career.

Career

Adjoa has a successful career in theatre and has performed in the most prestigious venues in the United Kingdom. She made her television debut in 1990 in the series Eastenders: she landed a leading role in 1993 in the series Health and Efficiency, in which she played until 1995. She then made a series of appearances, notably in 1998 in Close Relations . In 2000, she became Colette Griffiths in the series Casualty . This role confirmed her with the general public. She played it until 2003.

She made her Doctor Who debut in 2006 in the first episode of season 2, “A New Earth ,” where she played Sister Jatt. She then played Francine Jones , Martha’s mother, during seasons 3 and 4. She starred with Noël Clarke in 2008’s Adulthood .

She then shines in MIHigh , and Missing from 2009 to 2011. She debuted in Hollywood in 2009 in the role of Brenda Mazibuko, in the film Invictus, by Clint Eastwood .

She then starred in the series London, police judiciaire from 2011 to 2014. She continued in 2014 by playing in the film Chasing Shadows and the series The Awakening. From 2013, she also lent her voice to audio books.

She reunited with David Tennant in 2015 in season 2 of Broadchurch . That same year, she reunited with Russell T. Davies in Cucumber , then Noël Clarke in 2016 in Brotherhood . She also lent her voice to the animated series Thunderbirds: Sentinels of the Sky from 2015 to 2020.

Since 2020, she has played Lady Danbury in the series Bridgerton . She also appears in the spin-off series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

She appears in two episodes of The Witcher in 2021. She appears again in 2022 in the series Don’t Mind: Cruxmont .

She has appeared on stage in dozens of shows including, among others, Les Liaisons Dangereuses , Julius Caesar Casca, Troilus and Cressida and also in The Vagina Monologues.ADJOA ANDOH

Privacy

She married Howard Cunnell, an author and lecturer, in 2001. They had three children.

Since 2009, she has been licensed to be a lector, a sort of lay preacher, in the Church of England.
