Adam Richman, the star of the TV show Man v. Food spoke candidly about his 2018 near-death experience on the August 3 episode of the Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did podcast. The 48-year-old recounted how, during a Michelin event in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2018, he felt that something was not right.

On the show, Richman revealed that he had discovered a pimple-like growth in one of his mustache follicles. The actor and television personality later admitted that the virus had caused his lips to grow to the size of a banana.

The Brooklyn native stated that the problem was due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection. The Brooklyn native is best known as the host of several food challenge series, including Man v. Food from Travel Channel.

To combat the infection, Adam Richman underwent surgery and received numerous antibiotics. Apparently, he was informed at the time that the disease might grow intracranial and eventually spread to his brain.

Richman was told that the infection in his mustache follicle was in a “danger triangle” area because it could spread to his brain and pose life-threatening danger.
