Of Irish, French-Canadian and African-American ancestry, Shermar is the son of Marilyn Wilson and Sherrod Moore. He lived with his mother who worked as a teacher in Denmark and Bahrain during Shermar’s first seven years of life. While in Bahrain, Shermar went to a British private school, and then in 1977 he and his mother returned to the USA, initially to Chico, California, but then moving to Palo Alto in the south of the state, where went to Gunn High School.
