Chris Ayres, an actor best known for expressing Dragon Ball character Freeza, has died at 56 years of age. The cause of death has not been specified.
The actor first joined the Funimation dubbing of Dragon Ball Z Kai but later took on the role of the powerful villain Freiza in Dragon Ball. He participated in several other anime projects providing his unique voice to series such as Maburaho, Black Butler, Sengoku Basara, Gantz, Tears to Tiara, Fairy Tail, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and many others. He also served as the director of ADR and a screenwriter for numerous English dubbing.

Chris Ayres Cause of Death
His death was announced by the girlfriend of Ayres, partner Bender Krystal Laporte, on social media. “On October 18 at 8:40 pm, my world went dark,” Laporte wrote. “Christopher Owen Ayres passed away peacefully, close to his mother, brother and girlfriend”.
Laporte continued to address anime fans saying, “Chris loved you all. How much he loved other people filled the vast majority of our conversations. For those of you who really loved him, thank you. For those of you who stayed in touch, you reviewed him, reminded him that he was much, much more than his job. You were the fuel for their fight. You nurtured dreams of a future that kept him going for longer than any normal person could. I hope that where you are, the first thing you have done is take long, deep breaths with your perfect lungs and dance again. ”

Ayres was diagnosed with end-stage cardiac obstructive pulmonary disease in 2017 and spoke openly about his health issues on social media, including images from treatment and various hospital stays.
