Evan Kinley, a high school football star died after being struck by a tree outside his grandparents’ house during heavy storms.Kinley, a 15-year-old from Anderson, South Carolina, was getting out of his car when a tree dislodged and fell on him near the property’s garage. Hanna’s sophomore T.L. stopped at the house on Arnold Drive, near Kings Road, around 5:00 p.m. m. of Monday. Her horrified grandparents were the first to discover Evan after the tree fell over. The couple tried their best to get him out from under, but he was too heavy to lift. His beloved grandson was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner ruled the student’s death accidental, as a result of severe weather. He is remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and driving.

Evan was also a junior volunteer firefighter with the Broadway Fire Department and a star of T.L. Hanna’s soccer program, playing offensive guard for the high school team. The team’s head football coach, Hanna Jason Tone, said Evan had a ‘can do’ attitude and it was positive to be around. ‘He always had a smile on his face. He showed up every day for work, he was a great teammate, very energetic (and) funny and had a lot of friends on the team.’ A post from the Broadway Fire Department read: ‘Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers. The next few days are going to be hard for them. Evan was a great guy. ‘He was a junior firefighter with us and we were looking forward to having him in the future. We will definitely miss him. Rest in peace our young friend. He left too soon. Volunteer firefighter Kim Strickland said the loss of Evan weighed heavily on many. “We didn’t lose a 15-year-old boy, we didn’t lose Evan, we lost a family member,” they told WYFF.
