Zachary Scheich Wiki – Zachary Scheich Biography
Zachary Scheich, a diminutive 26-year-old Nebraska man who posed as a teenage student to “blend out” at two high schools last year, and has now been arrested on charges of sexual assault and sex trafficking, authorities alleged. Using the alias Zak Hess, Zachary Scheich pretended to be 17 to enroll at Northwest High School in Lincoln and later transferred to Southeast High School to commit the alleged crimes, the Journal Star reported, citing local police. “I’ve been with the district for 10 years, and this is the first time I can remember something like this happening,” Lincoln Public Schools chief of security Joe Wright told WLKN. Scheich “mingled with other students” and spent a total of 54 days at both schools during the 2022-23 academic year, Deputy Police Chief Brian Jackson said.
The diminutive suspect, who is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds, graduated from Southeast High School in 2015, authorities said. Police launched a fraud investigation June 1 after receiving a tip about a suspected impersonator named Zak Hess contacting students via phone or computers, KETV reported. None of the alleged crimes occurred on school property, police said, adding that there is a list of alleged victims that have not yet been interviewed and there may be more that have not been identified. Scheich was arrested Thursday at a local library and charged with two counts of sexual assault using an electronic device and one count of sex trafficking of minors. Lincoln Public Schools faced questions about how a man in his 20s managed to enroll in the first place.

Incident Detail
Wright said the minimum requirements to enroll in a public high school are a birth certificate, immunization records and academic records, but the suspect allegedly provided false documents. The safety director added that state law prohibits the district from adding any other requirements. “I don’t foresee any changes because of the requirements we have to educate all the children,” Wright told KLKN. “But obviously something like this makes us look at where we could go. We just started that process.” He told the Journal Star that the district has a “legal responsibility” to educate all children under the age of 20. “Some parents don’t vaccinate, some homeschooled kids don’t have academic records when they come in, we have kids from all over the world who come in and don’t have birth records,” Wright told the newspaper.
“What we are given is sometimes not as complete as we would like or as evidentiary as these types of cases would lead you to think, but that is what is required of us,” he added. The district told parents in an email that it is reviewing enrollment procedures. Scheich, who began attending Northwest on Oct. 20 and transferred to Southwest on Jan. 12, was also scheduled to attend summer school, but he didn’t, authorities said. Police declined to answer if anyone posed as a parent when he enrolled, the Journal Star reported. Schools spokeswoman Mindy Burbach told the outlet that Scheich’s attendance was “uneven,” adding that staff turnover and the length of time since he graduated might have made it difficult for school officials to recognize him.
