While four of the five deceased victims were located within a short period of time, the fifth victim was not discovered until hours after the initial shooting. The victim’s body was found inside the home.

Kimbrady Carriker, a 40-year-old suspected gunman, was arrested and taken into custody, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said. Carriker was allegedly wearing a ballistic vest and had multiple magazines, an “AR-type rifle,” a handgun and a police scanner during the shooting, which began at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the Kingsessing section of Southwest Philadelphia.

A second person was also arrested. Police said they believe the individual returned fire at the shooter.

Not much is known about the victims. All of them were between 15 and 59 years old. Lashyd Merritt was shot multiple times in the chest and arm. Dymir Stanton was shot in the chest and back. Ralph Moralis was shot in the head, side, and buttocks. Daujan Brown was shot in the shoulder, chest, and back. Joseph Wamah Jr. was also shot multiple times, body parts unknown.

President Joe Biden said he mourns the lives lost and prays for a world where gun violence in the United States ceases to exist.

“In recent days, our nation has once again suffered a wave of tragic and senseless shootings in communities across the United States, from Philadelphia to Fort Worth, from Baltimore to Lansing, from Wichita to Chicago,” Biden said.

He added: “Today Jill and I grieve for those who have lost their lives and as our nation celebrates Independence Day, we pray for the day that our communities are free from gun violence.”
