Personal
Burton has been married once and has no children. From 1986 to 1995, Burton was married to ABC 7 sports reporter Jim Rose. Rose, who had been dating Burton when she was a Chicago Bears cheerleader, surprised her with a diamond engagement ring Friday night before Super Bowl XX in New Orleans. Rose popped the question aboard the President ship, the scene of a pep party for the Bears. Burton, who had finished a dance number with the Honey Bears, was sitting with Rose in the moonlight when she reached into her pocket to remove her ring. Rose, quite romantic, had scheduled the proposal for a year after the couple’s first date. That, coincidentally, happened at a Super Bowl XIX party in Chicago.
On April 23, 2008, Burton, along with 4 others (5 separate attacks), was injured after a man struck them in the head or face. Gregory Perdue, 28, threw his fists down a sidewalk in downtown Chicago. Burton was beaten during her dinner break. She was walking near Washington St. and State Street when what she thought was a bullet struck her in the head. However, she was struck by a punch to the head from Perdue that knocked her to the ground. An X-ray and CT scan revealed no serious damage, but she said she suffered from headaches for months after the attack. At trial, Perdue’s lawyer said that Perdue was schizophrenic. Perdue was found not guilty to five counts of aggravated assault. Instead, the judge referred Perdue to the state Department of Mental Health until April 2015.
