Who is Nikki Alcaraz?

Nikki Alcaraz, 33, set out on the hike sometime in early May, leaving her home a few miles outside Nashville with the intention of arriving in Southern California a few days later to see family. A Tennessee couple is missing after embarking on a cross-country trip several weeks ago, in a case dating back to the 2021 disappearance of travel blogger Gabby Petito.

Along for the nearly 2,000-mile journey was Alcaraz’s boyfriend, Tyler Stratton, and Alcaraz’s pet dog. Somewhere along the way, the 33-year-old mother disappeared, police say, with eyewitness accounts and police reports now indicating some sort of struggle took place shortly before her disappearance.

The altercation occurred in New Mexico on May 4 and left Alcaraz with a black eye. The injury is visible in a Torrance County police report filed later that day after the couple was arrested and later released without charges, as were Petito and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie when they were pulled over by police. in Utah after a similar raid.

A witness told responding officers that they saw Stratton, who, like Laundrie, is wanted for an unrelated crime, punch her in the face. The report also states that Stratton claimed that he, too, was beaten during the altercation in the small town of Moriarty, which has a population of approximately 1,900 and is located just outside of Albuquerque.

Speaking to Pix11 News Sunday, Alcaraz’s sister, Toni Alcaraz, recalled how she received a frantic call from Nikki later that day, days before she was last seen. “She was crying and upset,” Toni recalled to the middle of her, detailing the failed efforts by her and others thus far to track down her sister or her boyfriend.

“Her eye of hers was already turning black and she could tell she was pretty banged up,” she added. The Tennessee native went on to detail how after the alleged fight, a family friend drove to New Mexico to meet her sister, who has two school-age children at home, hoping to take her to California herself.

However, when that anonymous visitor arrived and was ready to leave with Alcaraz on May 6, they were turned away: the still-missing woman told them that she had decided to stay and that she intended to locate her boyfriend.

To the cops’ knowledge, that person was the last to see Alcaraz, though Toni told Pix11 that she received a text from her sister’s phone three days later, claiming to be in Arizona and on her way to California. Nearly three weeks later, Alcaraz still hasn’t arrived, and her boyfriend, her dog, and her car are nowhere to be found either.

As officials search for clues as to the location of the missing couple, Toni told the outlet that she is concerned that something happened between the two. “I’m afraid something happened to them, either they got into another fight or they crashed their Jeep somewhere,” Alcaraz’s concerned relative said, revealing that he had been driving west to see his uncle.

“I talk to her almost every day, so I’m afraid something has happened to them,” he said. It’s a journey she’s taken hundreds of times. Speaking with the station on Sunday, Toni explained that she and other family members are frantically searching for her missing relative, with the help of the Moriarity Police Department.

Federal officials have yet to become involved in the search, which so far has turned up no leads other than the fact that Alcaraz’s black 2013 Jeep Wrangler was located by a license plate reader near Flagstaff, Arizona, the day they called. her sister to tell her that she was in the Grand Canyon State.

On Sunday, Toni told Pix11 that despite the grim forerunner provided by the case of the late Petito, who was found dead two months after she refused to press charges against an abusive laundromat, she is hopeful that her sister is still alive.

“I don’t think she’s dead anywhere, but it’s all a possibility right now, and I’m really scared of that, but I pray that’s not the case,” she said. On the similarities to Petito’s case, she further commented, “All the stories like that that seem to happen and seem to happen more frequently make it scarier.”

Meanwhile, her brother, Josh Alcaraz, told local Fox affiliate Fox10 that his sister was battered after the run-in with her hunk in general but still refused to press charges. “He hit her pretty badly,” she said. “A trucker had to shake him off, and call the police, the police picked him up, took him a couple of exits, and dropped him off. He was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and a broken hand or wrist.

On the possible whereabouts of her relatives, she added: “She’s gone on a mission to find Tyler, and that’s the last anyone’s really heard [from her]. Meanwhile, prosecutors in the sisters’ native Tennessee are working to collect evidence from law enforcement in both New Mexico and Arizona in hopes of locating any of the missing persons.

District Attorney General Ray Crouch said this week that his office has requested the nationwide extradition of the still-missing Stratton, who is wanted for failure to appear on a probation violation stemming from a charge of unrelated theft. DailyMail.com has contacted Crouch’s office for comment on the progress of the search. Both Alcaraz and Stratton remain missing as of Monday.
