To achieve her stunning home, Mills told Insider, she turned to Dvele, a San Diego-based start-up that sells prefab and modular homes that are energy-efficient and weather-resistant. Dvele builds homes largely in a giant factory before trucking them in large pieces to the owner’s lot for installation.
His 1,840-square-foot home took four months to build, which is about half the time it takes to build a typical home, according to the company. But the installation took more time for Emily and Barclay as the pandemic was raging and supply shortages and closures affected work crews.

The home also features an outdoor shower to allow owners and guests to rinse off after a dip in the ocean. On the other side of the house, the other two bedrooms double as Jack and Jill rooms that are connected via the bathroom.
