“I want you to be my partner, not just in marriage, but my partner,” he said, in a video recorded by Donna’s children. His lies were finally exposed on February 2, 2022, when Portland Police Sergeant Matt Jacobsen saw Golden’s silver Dodge Charger with the trunk open.
He noticed a tactical vest inside with a DEA patch on it and asked Golden if he was a narcotics agent. Eventually, a real DEA special agent showed up. Golden said: ‘He came up to me and said: ‘I can’t find you in our records.’ And I said, ‘I know you can’t. And then they put the handcuffs on me. “The funny thing is, when they saw my vest and stuff, one guy was like, ‘Damn, he’s got better gear than us.'”
