As a child, he lived in Memphis, Tennessee; however, he moved to Los Angeles when he got to high school. After finishing training him in high school, Hardwick joined UCLA to focus on thinking.

In the mid-1990s, Chris Hardwick facilitated the game show Destroyed on MTV.
