Beam Benson is an American artist, entertaining musician, voice animator, and guitarist. He is the lead artist for the western swing band Sleeping at the worst possible time. Benson was accepted into the Austin Music Lobby of Distinction in 2002, received the Texas Music Affiliation Lifetime Achievement Scholarship in 1996, and was recognized as a Maker Extraordinary by the Keep Expressions Public Foundation in 1988.

Beam Benson has also received several achievement references from Broadcast Music, Inc. for his work in the field of home music. Beam Benson has been arguably one of the most entrenched names in blue grass music for the last forty years. He has received nine Grammy scholarships in four separate years.

In February 2009, Sleeping at the Worst Possible Time and Willie Nelson presented “Willie And The Wheel”, a co-ordinated western-swing effort pitched by veteran creator Jerry Wexler. Nelson has had a longstanding interest in western swing and visited the band in 2007. Paul Shaffer and Vince Gill also perform on this series.
