On November 27, 2001, the collection of Bruce Firman, a resigned real estate agent who gave his ex-partner Margaret Benesch a house on Northend Tecumseh Road in St. Catherines, Ontario, was found in the garage at a horrendous crime scene.

The revelation was made by Margaret and her girlfriend Elizabeth Gatenby, who were returning from a night out.

Margaret and Elizabeth considered calling 911 after tracking down Firman’s body in a pool of blood in the garage. The specialists, who showed up shortly after, discovered that he had been hit on the head with a monkey wrench, which was lying right next to the body and covered in hair and blood.

They also discovered that a later youth, who recently left the inn, might have been involved. They then went through Elizabeth Gatenby’s case for fingerprints and those gathered discovered a 17-year-old named Tommy Nicol.

Nicol quickly confessed to the murder once challenged with hard evidence and also brought Gatenby’s son and his assistant in crime, Byron “Dell” Gatenby, to specialists, who later discovered that his mother had manipulated them into killing Firman in exchange for $400.
