Meghalaya prisoner on the run recaptured

Shillong, Sept 12 (IANS) A day after Ramesh Dkhar and an individual prison escapee figured out how to escape the fury of the horde at the site of Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills on Sunday the other four criminals were killed , was captured Monday while another man had not yet been tracked down, police said.

Police said that Dkhar was seen in the Shangpung Thadmuthlong region by certain people who informed them and a group of police officers rushed to the scene to take him out to avoid any inappropriate incident

Five underage prisoners and convict Marsanki Tariang escaped from Jowai Prison after chasing and overwhelming the gatekeepers on Saturday night and took refuge in a desert. However, four of the preliminaries were lynched by a horde in Shangpung in the West Jaintia Hills region.

According to the police, a horde of individuals in the vicinity, generally young, armed with wooden sticks, severely whipped the four, killing them on the spot. On Sunday, the criminals left their shelter and tried to get food when the individuals spotted them and chased them.

Dkhar figured out how to escape the wrath of the crowd and Tariang was nowhere to be seen when the incident occurred on Sunday. Tariang was serving a prison sentence after being charged under the POCSO Act.

Among those hacked to death by the mob was I Love You Talang, who, along with Dkhar, was captured last month for the revealed murder of two taxi drivers. The other preliminaries lynched were Lodestar Tang, Shidorki Dkhar and Rikmenlang Lamare.

Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told the continuing Assembly meeting on Monday that the public authority had set up two trial boards to examine Jowai’s escape and the subsequent lynching of four of the outlaws.
