IAF carries out post midnight mission to evacuate injured BSF jawan

Kolkata, September 11 (IANS) In an overnight activity past 12 pm, the Indian Air Force (IAF) transported a truly damaged Border Security Force (BSF) faculty from Krishnanagar in the Nadia region of West Bengal to Calcutta on Sunday.

Agent Shabir Ahmad Wani of the 141 billion BSF was working in a Char (huge shoal) along the India-Bangladesh line at Jalangi, Murshidabad, when a work vehicle flipped on its side and trapped him.

“He was saved and rushed to Behrampore Medical College and Hospital. Specialists there recognized numerous fractures and spinal injuries. They said that he should be transferred to Kolkata immediately. It was night by then, at that time. We got to the IAF right away. We were advised to start moving towards Kolkata down the street with the patient while transportation arrangements were made. By the time we reached Krishnanagar, we were informed by the IAF that a helicopter had been dispatched to take it from that point,” said a senior BSF official from the South Bengal border.

Meanwhile, an IAF Helicopter Unit 157 Mi-17V5 helicopter, based in Barrackpore, took off in an air rescue vehicle configuration with a certified clinical group at the ready.

“This was around the evening time and we needed to land and take off from a new helipad. Successful pilots accomplished the mission using night vision goggles (NVG) and other guidance. It was after 12:00 pm when Wani was handed over to a detained clinical group at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. Krishnanagar’s exchange required a couple of moments. Down the street, it would have required a few hours,” an IAF official said.

Agent Wani has been owned by the state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, where specialists said his injuries are serious. However, he is constant.
