Robert McCurdy unfurled the image of Barack, who is seen standing tall while wearing a boring suit, a wispy tie and a standard American pin. “What I love about Robert’s work is that he paints people as they are, regardless of anything else,” Barack joked at the reveal. “You will note that he did not hide any of my silver hair, he declined my request to make my ears more modest. In all seriousness, Barack noted the significance of the representations. “Just when people then walk down these halls and look at these photos, I think they have a real, prevailing sense of who Michelle and I were,” he said. “Likewise, I think they walk away with a more meaningful decision that if we could get here, maybe they can too.”
