Longtime Clemson athletic trainer Fred Hoover has died. He was 92 years old. On Monday night, Hoover, nicknamed “Doc,” died at his home. He watched Clemson’s 41-10 win over Georgia Tech before that night, according to his son Brian. The school recruited Hoover in 1959, and he served as its head athletic coach until 1999. His work as a contact for rival teams continued during football weekends for Clemson’s athletic division.
The National Association of Athletic Trainers named Hoover as its administrator during his vocation. In 1983, Hoover was awarded a recognized grant aid from the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. After 11 years, the South Carolina Athletic Trainers Association presented the Fred Hoover Award for Excellence.

After leaving Florida State University in 1953, Hoover became a track and field coach. Before coming to Clemson, he was an athletic mentor at his matriculation institute.
