Philip Mudd is an American commentator and former specialist at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Mudd began working at the CIA in 1985 as an expert and spent a lot of time in South Asia and the Middle East. He began working for the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center in 1992. He held the position of Deputy National Intelligence Officer for the Near East and South Asia at the National Intelligence Council from 1995 to 1998.

Not long after that, he was appointed chief intelligence officer for the FBI. President Obama proposed Mudd in April 2009 for the position of Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security.
