A five-time champion, Lex has the most consecutive days and days overall spent as the NWA/WCW United States Heavyweight Champion.
He is the second winner of the WCW Triple Crown. He never took home a WWF championship, though he did challenge for every one, and shared victory at the 1994 Royal Rumble. He received Pro Wrestling Illustrated Readers’ Most Popular Wrestler of the Year in 1993.
When Lex Luger started having neck problems, he was traveling to San Francisco. When he tried to reposition his neck, things got worse. The journeyman fighter experienced a pinched nerve in his neck, which briefly left him a paraplegic. When he pinches a nerve, he is said to be pinched. The most common way it occurs is when the tissue around the nerve puts too much pressure on it.
Numerous problems, including a spinal infarction that leaves an athlete temporarily paralyzed, can be caused by pinched nerves. But because he was considered small, Luger was treated with intravenous antibiotics. Lex was anticipated to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, he ran into some bumps along the way.
Even a month after his spinal injury, Lex was left quadriplegic and unable to move any of his limbs. Lex Luger struggled a lot during his recovery period, and was only able to prevail through sheer internal strength.
By June 2008, the athlete could walk short distances with a walker and by 2010, he could drive and walk long distances. The professional wrestler said in a 2010 interview that he was now able to drive and walk more easily.
By 2014, Lex was frequently using a wheelchair, even though he was still able to travel short distances on foot, and by 2021, he was fully wheelchair dependent.
There has been no recent news regarding Lex Luger’s health indicating any serious issues, and he appears to be doing well.
Since then, the athlete has moved to Buffalo, New York. Most of Lex’s free time is spent volunteering at nearby churches and schools. Despite all the obstacles in his way, Luger has changed his outlook on life and is committed to helping others.
At 64 years old, Luger can hardly be recognized as the same fighter. The legendary wrestler has been appreciative of his fans throughout that time and frequently shows up at fan gatherings to meet them.
In late 2002, he began touring with the WWA in Europe. He made his last appearance in WWA on December 13 in Zurich, Switzerland, where Sting defeated him for the WWA World Heavyweight Championship.
Throughout 2004 and 2005, Lex made sporadic appearances on the independent circuit. In the main event of a United Wrestling Federation match in Oklahoma on August 26, 2006, Lex entered and was successful over Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner. On September 22, 2007, the journeyman wrestler was inducted into the XWF Hall of Fame.
