BBC Concert Orchestra posted an acknowledgment saying: “It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Bramwell Tovey, our chief conductor, has passed away.” They also added that their thoughts are with his loved ones.

Bramwell Tovey’s Disease and Sarcoma In 2019, Bramwell Tovey was initially determined to have an unusual type of sarcoma. He quickly became prone to illness after a medical procedure in 2021, but the VSO reports that the illness returned in January.

Bramwell began his melodic calling with Salvation Army groups. Before he started directing, he started playing tuba and piano. His effect on British Columbia’s music, expressions and culture during his residency as Music Director of the VSO was significant.

Tovey was an impetus for change and a special person with knowledge, humor, sympathy and sincerity.
