Lambert was very close to his sister, Elsie, Tania’s mother, who called him Simmie. The family spent every Thanksgiving at Elsie’s house.

Lambert was at Elsie’s house for dinner just hours before the attack. Then he went back through the trail he’d been chasing, despite the fact that Stephens hasn’t the faintest idea why her uncle was out so late.

Lambert was a mainstay of his environment. He beat a heroin addiction earlier in his life, and Stephens says he only had a positive effect on her, her relatives and his children.

Stephens and her family encouraged the other teens to approach. Both the children and the guardians told and talked about why the children were outside at 2 am and beat and killed a more experienced man.
