These collections were individually number 6, 3 and 2 in the French music charts. The first and last of these collections were guaranteed ‘Platinum’ by SNEP (Syndicat National de l’édition Phonographique), the intermediary association representing the interests of the French record industry. Her second collection was insured for ‘Edelsteen’ by SNEP and ‘Platinum’ by BEA (Belgian Entertainment Association), the association representing the interests of music, video and computer game companies in Belgium. She was born in Mali’s capital and largest city, Bamako, to a group of griots (West African history students, storytellers, acclaimed vocalists and writers of oral customs). Her stage name, Aya Nakamura, is a mix of her most memorable name Aya and the surname of Hiro Nakamura, an imaginary person in the famous superhuman/sci-fi TV series Heroes (2006-2010).

She had started her profession by spreading music on the web in order to gain a following. Before long, her longtime companion Dembo Camara turned into her creator and supervisor. In April 2018, Djadja, the lead single from her second independent studio collection Nakamura, remained at the top of the French music charts for 2 consecutive weeks.

The tune had also arrived at No. 1 on the Dutch music contours, making her the foremost French female craftsman to achieve this feat since the incredible Édith Piaf in 1961.

In February 2019, she was selected for both the ‘Tune of the Year’ and ‘Best Urban Album’ awards at the France Music Awards. In April 2019, she delivered the music video for her tune called Pookie. It became the most watched French video that year.

In the year-end reviews, she was named “Most viewed French female artist of 2019” by YouTube and “Most streamed French female artist of 2019” by Spotify.

In 2019, she was also remembered for Forbes magazine’s roundup of ’30 Under 30 in Europe’ in the ‘Diversion’ classification.
