Investigators say no fewer than two people were killed in an accident in New Jersey early Tuesday in which a vehicle folded over a tree in the woods after a police chase.
Essex County examiners did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the Glen Ridge chase, but police aware of the case say it started after officials received a report of a furnished break-in.
Whatever the circumstances, the chase ended with a badly injured vehicle turning on its side in the woods after the 5-hour accident near Ridgewood and Bloomfield roads.
The Essex County Investigation Office says the chief of state attorney’s office is investigating and they’ve been referred.

The Essex County Attorney’s Office was available as police coordinated traffic on Ridgewood and Bloomfield roads in the heart of the city, close to the metropolitan structure, library, elementary school, and police department. The police zone is located in front of a precarious bank in the recreation area.
The Glen Ridge train station will be closed, according to police. The accident happened not far from an accident in 2018 that killed two people. The accident in 2018 was also the result of a police chase in Montclair.
