Karl Wallenda, the author of The Flying Wallendas, was a German-American high wire craftsman. He was raised to fit on a tightrope, ride a bike on a tightrope, and walk a tightrope as part of a seven-man pyramid. At 73, Wallenda took a walk on a cable stretched 121 feet above the walkway between the two pinnacles of the ten-story Condado Plaza hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
He lost his balance and fell during the effort due to strong breezes and a misplaced cable. After her body turned up at the medical clinic, Wallenda was pronounced dead. The fall was recorded by a film crew from the neighborhood station WAPA-TV in San Juan, with an interpretation by announcer Guillermo José Torres, despite the fact that it was not reported on most television channels.

Karl formed his own reunion in 1922 with his brother Herman, Joseph Geiger, and his partner Helen Kreis. The two seemed to be very private about their relationship, as there is no notice of when they got married. Helen appears to have been an extremely stable wife who remained close.
